The key to making any change stick is to make sure that people feel that change is being done with them not to them. Ask yourself the question “Am I more likely to embrace change being imposed on me or change in which I have a genuine say in what is happening?”.
The more you consult people and get them involved the less resistance to change there will be and, if you do it right, there will be enthusiasm to embrace change.
What we never forget is that any change programme we are running will have to be absorbed into “business as usual” to actually take effect. This means that it is critical to include and listen to those people whose daily activity has to change to achieve the desired outcome. The challenge is making sure that process of consultation is inclusive, focussed and efficient.
At Kubernetes our whole approach is facilitative. We also know how to manage the consultation process to ensure that people feel that their views are being heard and acted on while still ensuring that key deadlines are met.
